Seeing a North Texas Region club end at No. 1 in our final 16s Club National Rankings didn’t come as a shock to anyone. However, Madfrog 16 Green being the one definitely came as a huge surprise! Congrats on an amazing run at USAV nationals, and with earning the 16 Open gold medal Madfrog was the only choice to put at No. 1. The team sat at No. 12 in our last rankings update before nationals.
Madfrog was one of the three clubs to make a push into the Top 10 based on their efforts in Dallas. VCNebraska 16 Elite, which tied for fifth, made a giant climb from No. 27 to No. 5. A5 16-1 Gabe made more of a modest move, going from No. 13 to No. 10. Rockwood Thunder 16 Elite was another team that made quite the leap, going from No. 29 to No. 13. TAV 16 Black Jason moved from No. 28 to No. 16. AVC Cle 16 Red jumped from No. 43 to No. 24.
Ultimately, there are lots of factors to take into consideration when formulating a list like our final national rankings. It leaves plenty of room for debate as these rankings are subjective. There are power league results, qualifier results, national tournaments like Triple Crown and of course the USAV and AAU national championships. All these come into play. We put more weight on what happened at Junior Nationals than the rest of the season because the schedule is built toward peaking at JN’s.
We also have one steadfast rule we don’t break no matter the circumstances. That rule is if Team A defeated Team B in a gold challenge match or gold bracket match at JN’s, Team A is always going to be ranked ahead of Team B. That’s because everyone comes to JN’s to win a gold medal and if Team A eliminates Team B from contention, it won at the absolute right time. Granted, it can make for some skewed overall rankings as a team might be too high or too low overall based on that rule, but what’s the point if the biggest head-to-head matches of the season aren’t the most important ones?
