That’s a wrap for the 18s after this past weekend’s USAV national championships in Reno. Congrats to SC Rockstar LOVB 18 Amir on winning 18 Open gold. And as a result, the group finishes the season at No. 1 in our final national rankings. SC Rockstar LOVB began the season at No. 1, though it didn’t go wire-to-wire as it dropped from the top spot during the season.
It also completed an amazingly successful four-year run for this squad. In 15s, then-SCVC finished in ninth place with just one loss at nationals. The next season SCVC went undefeated and captured 16 Open gold, then finished with a bronze last summer in 17 Open before the players capped their club careers with another undefeated performance for 18 Open gold.
The results this past weekend weighed heavily in shaping the final national rankings. It’s like the NFL, NBA or MLB, where the ultimate goal isn’t putting up the best record during the regular season, it’s winning a championship when it’s all said and done. So no matter what happened during the regular season, if Team A eliminated Team B from a medal during challenge or bracket play, then Team A is always going to be ranked ahead of Team B.
