In hindsight, everyone probably should have seen it coming, Wave 15 Brennan finishing the season with the USAV 15 Open gold medal. After all, this is a team that suffered its last loss at Triple Crown back in February. Wave lost to Legacy 15-1 Adidas on Day 1, then its final two matches on the last day to Madfrog 15 Green and KC Power 15-1, which was the last team to defeat Wave this season. Wave extracted a measure of revenge in Indy, eliminating KC Power in the quarterfinals. Wave ended the year 59-6, with a 42-6 mark against Open-qualified teams. Congrats, and obviously Wave finishes the season on top of our final Top 50 rankings. The results in Indy weighed heavily in shaping the final Top 50. It’s like the NFL, NBA or MLB, where the ultimate goal isn’t putting up the best record during the regular season, it’s winning a championship when it’s all said and done. So no matter what happened during the regular season, if Team A eliminated Team B from medal contention during challenge or gold bracket play, then Team A is always going to be ranked ahead of Team B without exception. It’s why Legacy is ranked behind OT 15 Randy despite Legacy winning AAUs and OT finishing third in Orlando. OT beat Legacy in Day 3 challenge play to advance to the gold bracket in Indy, and thus finishes at No. 2 in our Top 50. Legacy is right behind at No. 3, though Legacy finished ninth in Indy, since it’s only loss there was to OT. No team benefitted more from this rule than SC Rockstar 15 Carlos, which jumped from No. 21 to No. 6 in our final Top 50 after upsetting Madfrog in the quarterfinals. Madfrog ends the season at No. 7. Boiler Jrs 15 Gold was the only other newcomer to the Top 10, climbing slightly from No. 13 to No. 10. You can view the full Top 50 below.
