It’s a busy weekend ahead as the high school girls volleyball season begins to ramp up. There are three, three-day tournaments on tap for Aug. 11-13, including two big events in Texas along with one in Hawaii. ‘Iolani is hosting the prestigious Ann Kang Invitational, a 16-team field featuring teams from the island as well as California. The John Turner Classic is one of two in Texas and is made up of 44 teams, while the Mansfield tourney is comprised of 40 teams.

The first two days feature two pools of eight teams, while Day 3 wraps up pool play and then heads to bracket play to determine the champion. Top-seeded Mira Costa along with Sierra Canyon and Harvard-Westlake are very likely to be schools appearing in our initial Top 50 high school rankings coming out in a couple of weeks. Palos Verdes could also make the cut. Additionally, Sierra Canyon, Harvard-Westlake, Iolani, Punahou and Redondo Union are back together next month for the Durango Fall Classic taking place Sept. 16-17 in Las Vegas.
