Tour of Texas Houston Stop: Show Stoppers (Part 2)

Let’s get to the second part of our Show Stoppers from the second stop of the Tour of Texas in the greater Houston area. As we mentioned in Part 1, the competition was played at multiple sites and as a result we were not able to get to all groups on both days. However, we did manage to see the 14-17s divisions between both days and below we highlight the players who caught our attention the most. SHOW STOPPERS PART 2 Jaidyn Hartsfield OH Drive Nation 16 Red: Hartsfield is a fun outside to catch doing her thing. She’s an explosive attacker who launches off the ground in a hurry and carries a fast swing as she fires winners front and back row. Sarah Hickman RS HJV 16 Elite: With her size and length, Hickman is an impact right side. She can go right over the top of blocks consistently. She can also put up a big block and make it difficult on opposing attackers. Jasmyn Walker MB HJV 16 Elite: Walker brings a ton of energy and fire to the lineup. She’s a bit undersized but she makes up for it with the way she springs into the air as well as which the speed she does it with. Keoni Williams MB Skyline 16 Royal: Williams is a next-level talent who changes the dynamic of the match when she checks in. She’s long and can get up and over blockers with ease. She also provides a boost with her blocking and ability to help score points that way. LeVariya Pinder OH Skyline 16 Royal: Pinder played in the middle last year but is fitting in nicely on the outside. She’s another high-flying outside who can let it rip. Taylor Clarke RS Skyline 16 Royal: Defenses need to track Clarke because when in system, Skyline loves to feed her the ball and let her do her thing. Kiley Brooks L/DS Skyline 16 Royal: Brooks did a solid job out of serve receive, as well as picking off shots and extending rallies. Dawn Moore RS Madfrog 16 Green: Few players get up in the air like Moore. She’s a bit undersized but she explodes up and lets it go with her lively arm. Gabi Rodriguez L/DS Madfrog 16 Green: Rodriguez was flying around making plays. She was hitting the floor to make ups and covering at the net. Hannah Lee MB Madfrog 16 Green: Lee has a hammer for an arm. When in system, Madfrog is going to get her the ball. Opponents know this and still struggle to stop her. *** DaMya Mann S/RS Alamo 16 Premier: Mann is another player we enjoying watching get after it. She’s a competitor and does a lot for her team both setting and swinging. Hayden Thomas MB Madfrog 14 Green: Thomas is just one reason why Madfrog is among the top 14s teams in the country. She’s a real presence in the middle who opponents need to be concerned about. Grace White MB Madfrog 14 Green: Much of the same could be said about White. She helps give Madfrog a strong 1-2 punch in the middle as there is never any let up for opponents. Sarah Floyd OH/RS TAV 14 Black: Floyd is a next-level talent with unbelievable upside. The lefty passes out of serve receive and with her length she extends high up and unleashes effortlessly. Nicole Jacobson MB TAV 14 Black: Jacobson brings height to the middle. When in system, teams need to be ready because she’s another option TAV can lean on to score points. Caitlin Carrizales L/DS TAV 14 Black: Carrizales is a sharp defender who is rarely off the mark passing. Jennah Lee RS AJV 14 Adidas: There is plenty of potential when it comes to Lee. She has a strong arm and was taking big swings. Brooke Oney OH Alamo 14 Premier: Oney is a physical hitter and it makes her tough to contend with. Alamo can use her to swing on the left or the middle. Charlie George MB Alamo 14 Premier: George is another versatile player. She can swing from the left or out of the middle. She also can play middle back when she goes back to serve. *** Audree Hughes OH Madfrog 15 Green: Hughes was doing a great job connecting and giving her team a reliable point scorer on the outside. Aspen Brown RS Hou Skyline 15 Royal: A six-rotation right side who can also pass in serve receive, Brown is a key componenet and holds it down with the way she can score front and back row. Tinsley Welker-Brown S Hou Skyline 15 Royal: Welker-Brown plays under control and doesn’t show any signs of frustration. She sets a nice ball and was getting all her hitters involved. Brynn Stephens S TAV 15 Black: Stephens was running a 5-1 because TAV was playing short-handed. Normally a setter/right side, she showed no slowing down in directing the attack solo and keeping the offense powering forward. Gentry Barker OH TAV 15 Black: A six-rotation contributor, Barker is a heads-up outside who contributors all over. She’s a solid passer, defender and smart hitter. Naomi Livings RS TAV 15 Black: Playing short-handed, Livings took to the right side and added a big, power arm for opponents to deal with. Nyla Livings MB TAV 15 Black: There are times when Livings will make herself known and in loud fashion. Be it with a huge block or timely kill, she knows how to make a difference. Ansley Shafer L/DS TAV 15 Black: Shafer gets after it and brings a defensive edge. She moves well and covers lots of space. Naya Salfiti RS Skyline 17 Royal: A lefty, Salfiti is just part of what make Skyline tough to deal with. They have optins everywhere and her

vballrecruiter.com’s 18s Top 50 National Rankings (February)

Since the release of our initial Top 50 National Rankings for the 18s there have been six national qualifiers. Those are the events – along with upcoming tournaments like Triple Crown NIT and Bluegrass – that influence the rankings the most. Given the number of qualifiers it’s time to update the 18s pecking order heading into this weekend’s Salt Lake Showdown and Triple Crown in two weeks. There was a decent amount of turnover, with 11 new clubs entering the rankings this go around, as well as plenty of shifting among the 39 clubs which appeared in our initial Top 50. Salt Lake Showdown 18s: Preview and Predictions

Up next in the 18s qualifying season is the Salt Lake Showdown. A change from the last couple of years is the 18s splitting off into its own weekend instead of being attached with other age groups. Let’s take a look at 18 Open below, where you can see which teams are already qualified, the nationally-ranked teams competing, as well as 4 and 5-star athletes in the mix. SALT LAKE SHOWDOWN 18s  Number of Teams: 24 Number of Bids: 3 Previously-Qualified Teams (1): KC Power 18 Black vballrecruiter.com Nationally-Ranked Teams (7): 5. KC Power 18 Black KS 11. Wave 18 Brennan CA 13. SCVC 18 Roxy CA 15. Mizuno Long Beach 18 Rockstar CA 23. Club V 18 Ren Reed UT 36. Momentous 18 Dan CA 39. AZ Rev 18 Premier AZ   5-Star Players in the Field: Charlie Fuerbringer S Mizuno Long Beach 18 Rockstar (Wisconsin) Taylor Harvey MB Club V 18 Ren Reed (2025, Texas) Taylor Deckert SCVC 18 Roxy (2025, USC)   4-Star Players in the Field: Janelle Green KC Power 18 Black (Cincinnati) Isabel Clark OH Mizuno Long Beach 18 Rockstar (San Diego) Elina Mortensen OH Club 18 Ren Reed (BYU) Heidi Devers L/DS Dynasty 18 Black (Kansas) Evan Hendrix OH AZ Rev 18 Premier (TCU) Jenna Hanes MB Wave 18 Brennan (Michigan) Amanda Saeger S Wave 18 Brennan (DePaul) Maya Evens L/DS Wave 18 Brennan (2025, Maryland)   Outlook: There are two storylines that stand out this coming weekend. The first is KC Power chasing its third qualifier victory of the season after already earning golds at the KC MLK and Northern Lights events. Winning two qualifiers is already an impressive feat, but winning three is something very few teams ever accomplish in the same season. KC Power also happens to be the only team in the field with a bid and given its success at the past two qualifiers, there is a strong possibility of KC Power factoring into the top three and creating trickle down to fourth place. Teams are working to make one of the two, three-team gold pools on Day 3. If KC Power can finish in the top three – really top four – it will eliminate the pressure of the third-place match and needing to win that to secure the final bid. The other storyline is the amount of teams playing in their first qualifier. We’ve already had six qualifiers but with them mostly in the Midwest or East Coast, it’s kept the So Cal teams away. That changes this weekend when Wave, Long Beach, SCVC, Momentous, SG Elite and Rancho Valley enter the mix. OJVA is also making the trip from Oregon. Then there is the hometown club in Club V’s top 18s team finally playing in its first qualifier as well. Prediction: The pick is for SCVC to beat KC Power in the final and denying KC Power its third qualifier victory. That leaves SCVC with one of the three bids. We aren’t predicting anything too crazy with the last two bids, as Wave and Long Beach finish tied for third and both qualify.

Central Zone: Day 2 Show Stoppers

The Central Zone Invitational wrapped up on Sunday at the Indianapolis Convention Center. The tournament was just two days but it contained enough energy and excitement that it felt much longer. You can catch up on how the event played out here. Below, we note the players who stood out the most to us with our Day 2 Show Stoppers. DAY 2 SHOW STOPPERS Stella Hamood L/DS Circle City 14 Purple: Hamood played a key role in Circle City taking home the 14 Open gold medal. Her passing was smooth and sharp and she kept plenty of rallies going with her strong digging. Audrey Utterback OH Circle City 14 Purple: Utterback adds an explosive element to the attack. She’s a legit threat anywhere on the court with her power and ability to unload. Blaine Adams RS Circle City 14 Purple: Adams is a wirey right side who helps balance out the attack. She’s a quick jumper and can beat blockers before they are squared up. Kaylie Liepins S AVC Cle 14 Red: One of Liepins’ strength is she sets a really clean ball. She rarely puts up a bad ball for her hitters. Lola Loncar L/DS AVC Cle 14 Red: Loncar was another standout defender. She was solid out of serve receive and displayed the tools to keep her side in the rally. Grace Regula OH AVC Cle 14 Red: When it comes to providing punch to the offense, Regula checks that box and then some. She has a fast arm swing and hits with lots of pace. Ja’maria Jackson MB Munciana 14 Chipmunks: Part of Munciana’s success is being able to utilize its middle attack effectively. Jackson is one half of the equation. vballrecruiter.com’s 18s Top 50 National Rankings (February)
