Class of 2024: Current Top Recruiting Classes

Back in August we checked in on the Class of 2024 and how the recruiting classes were beginning to shape up. Then, it had been two months since players could begin committing to schools. There was a flurry of action, as 18 of our 29 5-star recruits already found new homes. Since then six more 5-star recruits have announced their future colleges. Another eight 4-star recruits have announced theirs. Below, we take another dive into the Class of 2024 to see how the recruiting classes are stacking up to date.

5-star recruits to commit since last update:

Lola Schumacher, L/DS, Brebeuf HS, Munciana – Wisconsin

Lauren Harden, OH, Hamilton Southeastern HS, Rev – Florida

Ava Utterback, OH, Plainfield HS, Circle City – Louisville

Favor Anyanwu, MB, Sasche HS, TAV – USC

NEBRASKA

  • Skyler Pierce OH Dynasty (5-star)
  • Olivia Mauch L/DS Premier Neb (5-star)
  • Ayden Ames MB Drive Nation (5-star)

Note: The Cornhuskers came out of the gate quickly, landing three 5-star recruits but no new updates since then. They remain in the conversation for best class to date.

Last Update: Skyler Pierce is arguably the top-rated outside from the class. Nebraska also did well getting Ayden Ames from the state of Texas. She’s one of the top-rated middles who could play on the right side or even eventually move to the outside. Rounding it out is 5-star defender Olivia Mauch, an in-state get. There’s still another year to go but it’s already going to be hard-pressed for any program to move ahead of Nebraska.

FLORIDA

  • Lauren Harden OH Rev (5-star)*new
  • Jaela Auguste MB Hou Skyline (5-star)
  • Taylor Parks S OTVA (4-star)
  • Ella Vogel L/DS Co Jrs (3-star)*new
  • Bella Lee L/DS OTVA

Note: Nebraska is the only school with commitments from three 5-star recruits, with Florida, Louisville, USC and Wisconsin the only other ones with commitments from two 5-star recruits. The Gators’ class took another step upward with the addition of 6-3 outside Lauren Harden. She’s long with the type of frame to excel at the next level. Tending to the defensive side, the Gators also are bringing aboard Ella Vogel, who starred for Co Jrs last spring.

Last Update: The Gators were one of 14 schools to have already received a commitment from at least one 5-star recruit. Theirs came from the 6-1 Jaela Auguste. The Texas stud highlights the class so far and will continue the athleticism for the Gators in the middle. Florida also gets a couple of local players, including 4-star recruit and setter Taylor Parks. Parks was solid for OTVA this past club season and seems destined to fit in well with the Gators.

***

USC

  • Jadyn Livings OH TAV (5-star)*new
  • Favor Anyanwu MB TAV (5-star)*new
  • Brooklyn Tealer OH Gainesville (4-star)
  • Paisley Douglas L VCNebraska *new

Note: The Trojans are making a charge. They started off with a commitment from 4-star outside Brooklyn Tealer, a 6-1 hard-hitting, high-flying hitter from Florida. She wasn’t quite enough to get USC mentioned in our first update but the Trojans have reaped benefits from their recruiting efforts with recent yeses from 5-star outside Jadyn Livings and 5-star middle Favor Anyanwu. The TAV teammates no doubt boost USC up in our watch list as they have big arms coming aboard down the road.

***

LOUISVILLE

  • Nayelis Cabello S/RS Top Select (5-star)
  • Ava Utterback OH Circle City (5-star)*new
  • Payton Petersen OH Six Pack (3-star)*new

Note: The Cardinals have climbed the chart thanks to a pair of commitments they’ve added since our last update. Ava Utterback, a 6-0 high-flying outside with a big arm, is the second 5-star recruit to say yes. The class also was boosted by the addition of Payton Petersen, a 6-0 outside with solid all-around game.

Last update: Louisville is part of the conversation thanks to a commit from Nayelis Cabello, a 5-star setter/RS from Florida. She projects as a 5-1 setter at the next level because of her 6-1 frame, but she could hit if her versatility is to be utilized.

***

WISCONSIN

  • Lola Schumacher L/DS Munciana (5-star)*new
  • Charlie Fuerbringer S/RS Long Beach (5-star)

Note: The Badgers continue to build a strong class. Lola Schumacher is one of the top liberos in the class and coming from a club like Munciana seems to be a natural fit at a program like Wisconsin. Having commitments from two 5-star recruits surely places the Badgers in the running for a Top 5 class to date. Moreover, Wisconsin has also received commitments from international players in Tosia Serafinowska (Poland) and Trinity Shadd-Ceres (Canada).

Last update: We must say, given Charlie Fuerbringer’s ability on the sand, it was surprising to see her go out of state and commit to a school like Wisconsin. However, given her indoor ability, she was a sure thing to land at a top program like the Badgers offer. She’s one of the highest IQ players in the class and a dynamic setter. More players are surely to be added to the recruiting haul, but what a centerpiece to begin with.

MICHIGAN

  • Camille Edwards S TAV (5-star)
  • Ella Demetrician OH FC Elite (4-star)
  • Ellie White S 1st Alliance (4-star)
  • Jenna Hanes MB Wave (4-star)
  • Lauren Evans OH Munciana (3-star)

Note: There’s been no change with Michigan’s class since last checking in. With the number of players and caliber the Wolverines could have a Top 5 class and certainly look destined to finish no lower than the Top 10.

Last Update: Michigan landed 5-star recruit and setter Camille Edwards most recently to add to what was already a strong class. Edwards has turned in a strong high school season with Prestonwood Christian TX. The balance and depth is to be liked as well, with Michigan adding two setters, two outsides and a middle. Ellie White is starring at Mother McAuley IL as an outside, though she’s committed as a setter. Jenna Hanes, a 6-3 middle, is having a great year at Cathedral Catholic CA, the No. 1 team in the nation.

***

MINNESOTA

  • Stella Swenson S MN Select (5-star)
  • Olivia Swenson OH MN Select (4-star)

Note: The Gophers too have remained steady since our last update and still arguably have a Top 10 class.

Last update: To nobody’s surprise the Gophers scooped up homegrown talent in the Swenson sisters, whose older sister Samantha starred at Minnesota as well. Both played up on MN Select this past club season helping the team earn a silver medal in 17 Open at Junior Nationals. Stella Swenson is arguably the top-rated setter in the class, so that’s a major score for Minnesota. Olivia Swenson is a big, physical outside who can provide depth.

***

KENTUCKY

  • Hannah Benjamin OH A5 (5-star)
  • Asia Thigpen OH Triangle (4-star)

Note: Kentucky has held firm since our last update and with the two commits they’ve received so far are in good standing.

Last update: Given how important the position is, there’s nothing wrong loading up on outsides. That’s the case for Kentucky as they landed two earlier studs on the left. Hannah Benjamin showed this past club season she’s one of the best all-around outsides in the division and was highly sought after. That’s a feather in the Wildcats’ cap. Asia Thigpen could be a 5-star recruit by the time she’s headed to the school. She showed tremendous strides in upping the level of her play this past club season and will give Kentucky another big arm to utilize.

***

NOTRE DAME

  • Morgan Gaerte OH Team Pineapple (5-star)
  • Anna Bjork MB MKE Sting (4-star)
  • Mallory Bohl MB Legacy (4-star)*new

Note: Notre Dame solidifies its eventual incoming class with Mallory Bohl. The 6-3 middle adds to a tall class as the Fighting Irish look to build up the program.

Last Update: Notre Dame is one of five schools which has secured commitments from one 5-star and one 4-star recruit. That puts the Fighting Irish in the thick of the recruiting race as it currently stands. Morgan Gaerte is a 6-4 big time outside who would fit in well at any top-level program. She’s a great commit to get for Notre Dame. Anna Bjork is a 6-3 middle with the size and ability to contribute mightily on the next level.

***

OHIO STATE

  • Emerson Sellman OH Metro (5-star)*new
  • Kaia Caffee MB MN Select (4-star)
  • Reese Wuebker OH Tri-State Elite (3-star)*new
  • Olivia Hasbrook L/DS Rockwood Thunder (3-star)

Note: The Buckeyes were not mentioned in our previous update. That obviously changes this time around as Ohio State received news of two more commits, including 5-star recruit Emerson Sellman. The 6-3 outside is long with next-level talent and could be a big reason Ohio State eventually lands a Top 10 class. Also added recently is outside Reese Wuebker. The free-swinging 5-11 outside jumps well and gives the Buckeye another scoring option. The Buckeyes started off with prior commitments from defender Olivia Hasbrook and 6-3 middle Kaia Caffee.

***

KANSAS

  • Zoey Burgess MB/OH Club V (5-star)*new
  • Heidi Devers L/DS Dynasty (4-star)
  • Grace Nelson OH 1st Alliance (4-star)
  • Reese Ptacek MB Northern Lights (3-star)
  • Kenzie Dean OH/RS Club Ignite

Note: The Jayhawks made a big splash with the recent commitment of Zoey Burgess. The 6-3 middle is one of the top recruits at her position and adds a serious punch to Kansas’ recruiting class so far.

Last Update: The Jayhawks are putting together a strong class so far. Grace Nelson isn’t necessarily a flashy outside but she’s a proven and effective scorer. Heidi Devers played up an age group this past club season and is a steadying presence in the back row. Reese Ptacek could prove a sleeper get. She’s 6-3 with lots of upside and her rating could improve by the time she’s college bound.

***

PENN STATE

  • Izzy Starck S/RS Co Jrs (5-star)
  • Ava Falduto L/DS New Wave (4-star)

Note: Things remain the same with the Nitanny Lions, who have a centerpiece already with Izzy Starck.

Last Update: Izzy Starck was one of the more sought after players in the class. She’s a versatile player who excels setting and hitting. She committed to Penn State, where her older sister Anjelina is currently playing. Given that, it seemed like Penn State was the favorite to get the younger Starck, much to the chagrin of other programs. Toss in 4-star defender Ava Falduto and the Nittany Lions have a Top 10 class so far. Can they keep it up?

***

OREGON

  • Alex Acevedo OH ID Crush (5-star)
  • Anaya Thrower MB Absolute (3-star)*new
  • Bridge Gould RS Webfoot

Note: The Ducks add size to the roster with the 6-3 Anaya Thrower. She’s agile and has lots of upside. She’s currently a 3-star recruit but could potentially be a 4-star down the road.

Last Update: Alex Acevedo has been committed to Oregon since she was in seventh grade. She’s long and lanky and will fit in perfectly in Oregon’s system.

***

BYU

  • Alex Bower S ID Crush (5-star)
  • Blaykli Bobik OH Arizona Storm (4-star)*new

Note: The Cougars might not crack the Top 10 but they are certainly a Top 20 class so far. Bringing in Blaykli Bobik gives BYU its first commitment from an attacker from this age group. Bobik, at 6-0, has a lively arm and fits the mold of past BYU hitters.

Last Update: Alex Bower follows in the footsteps of her sisters who have suited up for the Cougars. It’s a great start for BYU, who gets one of the more reliable setters available.

***

CINCINNATI

  • Faith Frame L/DS Premier Neb (5-star)
  • Janelle Green S KC Power (4-star)
  • Fallon Stewart OH OTVA (4-star)*new

Note: Cincinnati continues to do well for itself. The latest recruit is another 4-star player in 6-1 outside Fallon Stewart. She’s the first hitter to commit and helps balance out a small but strong class so far.

Last Update: The Bearcats are a non-Power 5 program making a big splash in the recruiting process so far. Faith Frame is one of the top-rated defenders and will assuredly bring a defensive presence to the lineup. Janelle Green is a solid setter with great leadership skills. Seeing them commit together may lead to some more surprises down the road.

***

ARIZONA

  • Carlie Cisneros OH Dynasty (5-star)
  • Avery Scoggins S/RS Triangle *new

Note: The Wildcats were on the radar because of 5-star Carlie Cisneros’ commitment to the school. Arizona’s class now includes Avery Scoggins, a 6-0 S/RS from North Carolina.

Last update: No doubt the Wildcats made waves with this commit. Carlie Cisneros was a stud for Dynasty this past club season and one of the best performing outsides in her age group. She gives Arizona a big jolt by committing to the PAC 12 school.

***

TENNESSEE

  • Camdyn Stucky S Shockwave (4-star)
  • Paityn Chapman OH Co Jrs (4-star)
  • Chelsea Sutton MB OTVA (4-star)

Note: Tennessee’s class hasn’t changed.

Last Update: Give it up to the Vols, who have been active. And not only active, but successful in landing three 4-star recruits so far. That’s a solid haul to date for Tennessee, which has done well in not only bringing in the players it has but the variety to boot. Camdyn Stucky is an underrated setter who flies under the radar playing for Shockwave. She can run an offense and Tennessee is surely looking forward to getting her on campus down the road. Paityn Chapman is a big outside with a strong arm, while Chelsea Sutton is a 6-4 middle who will bring height to the lineup. Those three could be the cornerstone of the lineup when they arrive.
